Sustainable Design

The U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health:  Sustainable Site Development, Water Efficiency, Energy and Atmosphere, Materials and Resources, and Indoor Environmental Quality.  While LEED certification for environment friendly “green” buildings is not mandatory, LEED guidelines encourage design in an environmentally positive direction as more clients expect green technology to be incorporated into their projects. Many states (Tennessee included) require sustainable design considerations and components to be incorporated on state funded projects based on a point system similar to LEED's certification point system.
